Bhagavad Gita Study – Karma? Reincarnation? Yoga? Would you like to know what they really mean? Join us to discuss the Bhagavad Gita. A 5,000-year-old spiritual text from India*s Vedic tradition, Bhagavad Gita is the record of a philosophical dialogue between God (Kristina) and His dear friend and disciple (Arjuna). The Bhagavad Gita - literally "the song of God" - expounds the most basic, and the most advanced knowledge about the world in which we live. The Gita outlines the four primary types of yoga (karma, jnana, dhyana and bhakti) and it also offers essential knowledge of the self: an understanding of one*s eternal spiritual identity, the nature of God, and the eternal relationship the individual shares with the Supreme.

Classes will focus on one or two chapters at a time, using key verses to illuminate the ideas presented in each smaller section, and relating each section to the whole. The class will most closely resemble a traditional lecture format, but the environment will be made open at all times to pertinent questions and discussion.

Eric Bernasek has been interested in philosophy and world religions for the last 15 years. Inspired by the beauty, clarity and veracity of the Bhagavad Gita, Eric became attracted to bhakti-yoga several years ago. More recently, the practice of bhakti-yoga has become a more integral part of Eric*s daily life. He has traveled to India twice in the last three years, studying Vedic philosophy, meditating and visiting place of pilgrimage. Eric regularly gives classes on the Bhagavad Gita at the East Hartford hare Krishna temple.
